Browndale Garage Sale Coordinators
Are there 2-3 people out there willing to team together to coordinate this year's Browndale Neighborhood Garage Sale?
The date is set for Saturday, May 17th. Coordinating consists of:
Accept the registration forms and $5 payments from Neighbors. Place an ad with Star Tribune for their Neighborhood Garage Sale Edition Place a free "community calendar" notice or place an ad in the Sun Sailor Put together a master list of where the sales are and "hot item(s)" for each sale. Distribute Yard Markers the Night Before. Pick up Yard Markers after the Sale Day.
We have a 3-ring binder of information. Plus this Garage Sale has been happening since 1997 and we've had at least a dozen different people who have coordinated it. They would be excellent resources for information.
If you haven't taken a turn doing something for the neighborhood, please consider stepping up to bat with this one. It really is a fairly easy task.

Meet Your President: Erik Evans
Greetings Neighbors. As this year’s Browndale Neighborhood Association president, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Erik Evans. My wife Robyn and I have a daughter who turned two this past month. I was born in Middletown, Delaware and my family moved to Minnesota when I was a young child. I grew up in Prior Lake and since 2001 have called St. Louis Park my home. What a fortuitous decision that turned out to be. I didn’t know it at the time, but living here in Browndale has been the start of a memorable and cherished part of my life.
At my Browndale home, I have hosted get-togethers around my backyard fire pit that have brought good laughter and stronger friendships into my life. I was married in this house with 14 family members in attendance. An occasion that is hardly forgettable. This is also my daughter Avery’s first home. I now look back with a certain fondness at my frantic pace of trying to refinish an old musty basement before “the baby” got here. All the while, my wife Robyn was frantically decorating a nursery, exacting all the details, to make the room perfect. Today, I believe Avery is happy and feels as much at home as we do.
During this whole time we have been surrounded by supportive and caring neighbors in a safe and interesting neighborhood. I have become more aware of this fact since my daughter has been born. I realize that our nice park, the well-planned family activities and the caring environment are due in large part to the dedication and hard work of others. We are fortunate here in Browndale to have a neighborhood association that has been proactive and has lived up to its mission of creating a closer, informed and familiar neighborhood.
It is in this spirit that I, as President, hope to contribute to our neighborhood. We have a strong neighborhood association, one of the best in SLP, and I intend to keep it that way. I will strive to bring neighbors together and to perform my duties to the best of my abilities. After a preliminary meeting with my fellow board members, I know that they are genuinely committed to our neighborhood association as well.
However, board members cannot maintain a neighborhood association alone. To keep this neighborhood association strong and running, we need what the name implies, neighbors. Folks, this is the year to get involved. Come to a meeting and share your ideas. Make that call to volunteer at one of the events. We promise you, it is not that hard, and does not take that much time and you just might have fun doing it.
I invite and encourage all of you to attend 2008’s first event. On February 23 is the annual WinterFest party from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Browndale pavilion. As customary, there will be skating, hot beverages and a bonfire. In addition, from 2:00-3:00, we will have a time for neighbors to give input on grant money proposals and input on a course of action for the previously disputed park land. We hope to see you there. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely, Erik (era_evans@msn.com)
